Building the foundation
Define these words - we will use this all year long be through and add examples to help you understand the word on concept.


You will review and gain a deeper understanding of the Magna Carta, The Declaration of Independence, Articles of Confederation.
  1. Listen to or read the introduction presentation
  2. Answer these questions about each document:
    1. What are the main principles of each document?
      1. What was each documents purpose?
    2. How how each document flawed or what was wrong with them?
    3. Which part(s) of the documents can be found in our current Bill of Rights or Constitution?
Use the interne in addition to what resources are provided.


Describe the purposes of our government as key philosophers build the foundation of our country.
Watch the You Tube video and take notes - which key person make which key statement.


You will dissect the goals of America's founders using the Preamble.
Participate and interactive during presentation.

You will compare and contrast the two competing ideas, Natural Rights and Classical Republicanism that built our government.
Complete a Venn Diagram showing the comparison between the two philosophies.



You will describe the contributions of key philosophers referred to when our government was created.
Choose topic and begin researching - compile information and present it in way that others can learn from you.

Gallery Walk - learning about all the other philosophers. Show how these philosophers are connected and how they have influenced our founding fathers. Answer this question in a short essay format, 3 paragraphs. Which philosopher could you relate to the most, and why?

Synthesize all the information you have gathered into a graphic organizer.
FINAL PROJECT
Using spreadsheet or a mind-map make three main topics, one for origins, one for purpose, and one for limitations of government. Use all of your notes and fill in the chart with key philosophers, ideas and documents.
